History Of The Marina
Savannah Marina has a longstanding history in Savannah and the Wilmington Island area. Situated at the mouth of Turner’s Creek, close to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, its superb location offers unique breathtaking views of the low country. Since its construction in the early 1980’s (formerly known as Sail Harbor Boatyard & Marina), the marina has enjoyed a local customer base and currently runs at 100% occupancy with daily inquiries from new customers. Its longstanding history and its continued involvement within the community, make it a warm and friendly environment that boaters call “home.”
The marina is currently under renovation but is actively operating the existing marina. Renovations include expansion of the floating dock system–state-of-the-art aluminum docks with composite decking. The new floating docks will include a fuel dock, a low-profile kayak and paddle board platform, and an in-slip pump out system. A new ship’s store and seafood restaurant are also part of the renovations. The store will include a retail space, bath house, laundry, offices, and a lounge. The new docks will have a section of the docks reserved for the restaurant to incorporate a “dock and dine” experience.
The development site consists of three pieces of property and an existing marina. The property is the former home of the Savannah Yacht Club (1927-1940), but more recently home to Lightship Tavern (1982-2002), Savannah Police Camp (1943-2021), and Sail Harbor Boatyard & Marina (1982-2021). Until the acquisition in 2017-2019, the properties had not been traded for over 70 years.
